How to Make Dashi with Bonito Flakes
Dashi can be used as a base for various dishes.
In Japanese cuisine, it’s used for miso soup, udon broth, ramen, and simmered dishes.
It can also be used in pasta, soup, pho, and cooking rice, among other dishes.
- Boil water in a pot. 800 ml (for 3-4 servings).
- Add 30g of bonito flakes, then reduce the heat to low and wait for 2-3 minutes.
- During this time, skim off any small bubbles that rise to the surface.
- Turn off the heat and remove the bonito flakes to finish.
How to Make Dashi with Dashi Packs
- Boil water in a pot. 800 ml (for 3-4 servings).
- Add 2 dashi packs, then keep the heat at medium and wait for 3-5 minutes.
- During this time, skim off any small bubbles that rise to the surface.
- Turn off the heat and remove the dashi packs to finish.
